Dai serves as a Forestry Officer in the USAID-funded Sustainable Forests Development Project, based in Thanh Hoa province, Vietnam. His primary role involves supporting small forest owners, forestry nurseries, and forest management boards in Thanh Hoa to enhance the management capacity of production forests.
He also facilitates collaborations between businesses, wood processing factories, and afforestation households. This entails assisting afforestation households in establishing certified forest groups, evaluating FSC forest certification to enhance their livelihoods, and ensuring a stable wood supply for wood processing companies. The ultimate objective is to improve the management of at least 30,000 hectares of forests and establish 8,000 hectares of FSC-certified plantations.
Dai's responsibilities encompass planning, stakeholder engagement for project activities, delivering capacity building training to beneficiaries such as small forest owners and forestry seedling nurseries. He actively supports the establishment of large timber plantation models and assists in connecting businesses with small afforestation households. Additionally, he develops and implements forest management and monitoring models for forest management boards to enhance their capacity for sustainable forest management practices.
