Project objective
Identify and explore options for designating a forest national park in Denmark.
Project approach
The project identified locations known for their high conservation values as potential candidate sites for being designated status as a National Park.
Furthermore, the project looked at options for re-introuding native but extinct animal species that could restore some of the original landscape dynamics to a Danish
Results and impact
The project helped to create ealy awareness of the ideas of re-wilding and to spark discussions. Those ideas have more recently gained a much stronger foothold in Denmark as well as across Europe. Today, there are re-introduced beavers in several locations in Denmark, and discussions are on-going to re-introduce bison and elk.
