Preferred by Nature becomes first organisation approved to deliver GPSNR certification

By Benjamin Holst

Approval marks a major step forward in credible, third-party verification for the global natural rubber sector.

Copenhagen, 06.09.2026 - Preferred by Nature has been officially approved to provide third-party assessments under the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) Assurance System, making it the first organisation in the world to achieve this status. The approval follows a thorough review confirming Preferred by Nature's management systems, technical competence and on-the-ground capabilities.

The natural rubber sector is facing growing expectations around traceability, deforestation, human rights and responsible sourcing. GPSNR's Assurance System - developed by and for its members, who represent more than 50% of global natural rubber demand - provides a structured, risk-based framework for verifying that companies are putting their sustainability commitments into practice across complex, multi-tier supply chains.

"Natural rubber is at a turning point. The sector has made important sustainability commitments, but the challenge now is showing how these commitments are being implemented in practice. Credible certification and verification systems can help companies identify gaps, strengthen their systems and demonstrate progress. We are pleased to support this transition as the first organisation approved to provide certification services under GPSNR," said Sandra Razanamandranto, Regional Engagement and Communications Director, Preferred by Nature.

Stefano Savi, Director of GPSNR, welcomed the development: "We are delighted to approve Preferred by Nature as our first certified Assessment Service Provider under the GPSNR Assurance System. Preferred by Nature's strong reputation, recognised technical expertise and global operational scale make it ideally placed to help our members turn their sustainability commitments into verified practice. This approval is a significant step in building the credible, consistent assurance infrastructure the natural rubber sector needs."

The approval is timely. The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and other emerging regulatory frameworks are raising expectations for robust risk assessment, due diligence and supply-chain transparency. GPSNR  Assurance - which Preferred by Nature is now approved to assess - offers producers, processors, traders and manufacturers a practical, recognised route to meeting those requirements.

Preferred by Nature already acts as a certification and verification body for more than 15 sustainability schemes, with more than 5,000 active certifications and verifications covering thousands of operations worldwide across forest, agricultural and responsible-sourcing standards. This approval extends that expertise into the natural rubber sector.
