Preferred by Nature launches updated Sustainability Framework Certification programme
Preferred by Nature has released an updated version of its Sustainability Framework Certification programme, introducing a clearer, more integrated approach to sustainability certification across land use, supply chains, due diligence and communication.
The revision strengthens the programme's ability to address today's sustainability challenges while making it easier for organisations to understand, implement and communicate certification outcomes.
What's changed?
The updated programme introduces a more coherent structure across all standards, creating a clearer relationship among sustainability performance, due diligence requirements, chain-of-custody controls, and communication rules.
Key improvements include:
- Stronger focus on sustainability performance and measurable outcomes
- Enhanced requirements related to deforestation, climate and human rights
- Improved alignment with evolving regulatory and market expectations
- Clearer distinction between Sustainability and Regulatory certification scopes
- Streamlined programme architecture and terminology
- Revised claims and communication requirements, including clearer distinctions between Seal-eligible and non-Seal-eligible claims
Together, these changes create a more transparent and consistent certification system while helping organisations demonstrate credible sustainability performance.
Supporting organizations through changing expectations
As sustainability requirements continue to evolve, organisations face increasing expectations from regulators, customers and other stakeholders. The updated Sustainability Framework Certification programme is designed to provide a practical framework for addressing these expectations while supporting continuous improvement.
The revised standards offer greater clarity on what is required, how performance is assessed and how certification outcomes can be communicated accurately and responsibly.
The revisions were informed by feedback received during a public stakeholder consultation involving companies, certification bodies, civil society organisations, technical experts and other interested stakeholders. Preferred by Nature would like to thank everyone who contributed to the development of the updated programme.
