Building the future of traceability: A roadmap for trusted, connected supply chains

By Binita Timilsina

A bold vision to transform how sustainability is verified, trusted, and connected across global supply chains.

From proving deforestation-free sourcing to supporting EUDR compliance and strengthening certification, traceability has become one of the most important foundations of sustainable trade. With the launch of its Traceability Roadmap 2026–2028, Preferred by Nature is taking the next step towards building a more connected, reliable, and interoperable global traceability ecosystem—working alongside international partners to shape the future of sustainable supply chains.

More than tracking products

Traceability is no longer simply about knowing where a product came from. It is about connecting products with trusted information that proves sustainability claims, strengthens certification, reduces fraud, supports due diligence, and helps producers gain fair access to global markets.

The roadmap sets out how Preferred by Nature will strengthen its expertise, services, and partnerships to make traceability a practical tool that creates real environmental and social impact.

Shaping the future together

Rather than developing another standalone traceability platform, Preferred by Nature is working alongside international initiatives including the United Nations Transparency Protocol (UNTP), UNECE, and other global partners to help develop interoperable standards that allow different traceability systems to communicate and exchange trustworthy data.

This collaborative approach aims to reduce duplication, improve transparency, and make traceability easier to adopt across supply chains.

Turning data into trust

Reliable traceability depends on reliable data. The roadmap introduces new priorities to strengthen data integrity by combining technologies such as remote sensing, event-based verification, digital credentials, and risk-based assurance. These approaches will help move beyond self-declared information and provide stronger evidence to support certification, due diligence, and sustainability claims.

Strengthening the services our partners rely on

The roadmap also focuses on enhancing Preferred by Nature's core services by integrating traceability into certification, Chain of Custody, Due Diligence, and Risk Assessment. Through smarter audits, stronger evidence, and interoperable data, the organization aims to deliver more efficient services while helping clients meet evolving regulatory requirements such as the EUDR.

A roadmap for the next generation of sustainability

Over the coming years, Preferred by Nature will continue building partnerships, piloting innovative traceability solutions, and expanding the Traceability Tools Navigator (TTN) as a trusted source of knowledge for businesses navigating the rapidly evolving traceability landscape.

Because the future of sustainable supply chains is not just about following products—it's about building trust in every step of their journey.
