What is PEFC?
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is a global alliance of national forest certification systems that promotes responsible forest management through independent third-party certification.
PEFC was established in 1999 in response to the specific requirements of small- and family forest owners as an international umbrella organisation providing independent assessment, endorsement and recognition of national forest certification systems. Today, PEFC is the world’s largest forest certification system by number of certificates issued.
Preferred by Nature is an accredited certification body for evaluations against the PEFC Forest Management and PEFC Chain of Custody standards.

Where to use the PEFC trademarks?
- On-product - to label certified products. You can print the on-product label on your product or its packaging. You can also use stickers, hang tags or metal plates for on-product labelling.
- Off-product - to promote the certified company and its certified products. You can include the PEFC logo and relevant claims in various company materials. Examples include your website, stationery, e-mail signatures, price lists, and product catalogues.
Note: As a certificate holder, you need to follow the requirements for using all three trademarks. These are described in the PEFC Trademarks Rules Requirements. Certified companies gain access to the PEFC label generator once they have signed a trademark usage contract. The label generator ensures the creation of labels is aligned with the graphic requirements. There is no requirement for approval of each PEFC trademark use. However, we will verify your compliance with this standard during your initial PEFC certification assessment and each annual audit.
