Risk assessments available

By al@nepcon.org

Risk assessments developed by companies certified through NEPCon according to the FSC controlled wood standard (FSC-STD-40-005 version 2.1) may now be found at www.fsc-info.org.

Risk assessments are used by FSC certified companies to evaluate the risk of getting raw material from controversial sources.

In April, FSC requested all certification organisations to upload the risk assessments of their clients to the FSC database before the middle of July. The purpose was to provide transparency for the FSC Controlled Wood certification system and to enable harmonisation among certified companies and certification organisations.

How to find risk assessments

The risk assessments can be found at www.fsc-info.org by searching for the company and then clicking the company name. A new window will open with 3 tabs. Under the last tab “reports” you can find the risk assessment as a file for download, if applicable for the company.

Please note that only companies certified according to the FSC Controlled Wood Standard FSC-STD-40-005, and which are buying wood from non-certified sources, need to have a risk assessment in place. The FSC database does not currently have a filter function to search for companies which need a risk assessment. So if you want to check or compare all risk assessments within a certain region, you will have to search company by company.

Since the FSC controlled wood concept was introduced only recently, there might be cases of incorrect classification of risk level or cases where risk assessments are missing. We strongly encourage anybody having concerns about specific risk assessment to contact us (or the applicable certification organisation) immediately in order to verify the information.
