Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs)
Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) is a collaborative, landscape-scale initiative that brings together farmers, businesses, public authorities and civil society organizations to co-invest in regenerative agriculture and nature-based solutions. The approach enables stakeholders who rely on the same landscapes and supply chains to jointly address challenges such as climate change, soil degradation, biodiversity loss and water management. Through shared funding mechanisms and technical support, LENs help farmers adopt regenerative practices that strengthen ecosystem resilience, rural livelihoods and sustainable value chains across Europe.
- Soil degradation and declining soil fertility.
- Loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
- Climate change impacts on agricultural production.
- Water quality deterioration and flood risks.
- Limited financial incentives for farmers to transition to regenerative agriculture.
- Fragmented landscape management and stakeholder engagement.
- Farmers and land managers implement regenerative agricultural practices.
- Companies, local communities and ecosystems benefit from improved soil health, biodiversity, water quality and climate resilience.
- Accelerate the adoption of regenerative agriculture and nature-based solutions.
- Improve soil health, biodiversity, water quality, climate mitigation and farmers’ wellbeing.
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration.
- Strengthen climate resilience across agricultural landscapes.
- Create collaborative funding mechanisms that reduce transition risks for farmers.
- Enhance supply chain sustainability and long-term agricultural productivity.
Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) – Collaborative Landscape Investment for Regenerative Agriculture and Nature-Based Solutions
LENs bring together organizations that rely on and benefit from the same landscape, including businesses, farmers, water utilities, public authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders. Through a collaborative approach, participants identify shared environmental and supply chain challenges and co-design practical solutions that deliver benefits across the landscape.
Farmers and land managers receive financial incentives and technical support to adopt regenerative and nature-positive practices, including cover cropping, reduced tillage, improved nutrient management, habitat restoration and water stewardship. These actions help improve soil health, enhance biodiversity and strengthen resilience to climate-related risks.
The programme uses a co-investment model that enables multiple beneficiaries of ecosystem services to share the costs and benefits of landscape restoration. By creating new funding streams for environmental outcomes, LENs help reduce barriers to adoption and support long-term, sustainable land management.
Expected results include improved soil quality, increased biodiversity, enhanced water resources, reduced greenhouse gas emissions and stronger ecosystem services. These outcomes contribute to more resilient agricultural systems, sustainable supply chains and greater climate resilience for landscapes and communities.
Through its landscape-scale approach, LENs fosters collaboration among diverse stakeholders, aligns environmental and economic interests, and delivers measurable positive impacts for people, nature and businesses.
The role of Preferred by Nature
In LENs, Preferred by Nature acts as an implementation and coordination partner, supporting stakeholder engagement, farmer onboarding, impact measurement, and regenerative agriculture deployment. By delivering science-based programmes, we help generate and verify measurable environmental outcomes while advancing biodiversity, resilience, and landscape-scale conservation.
